Abstract

This dataset presents a georeferenced stable isotope record of rainwater from Morelos, Mexico, comprising 121 samples collected between 2016 and 2022. The dataset includes measurements of δ¹⁸O, δ²H, and d-excess, together with sampling dates and geographic coordinates. Rainwater samples were collected using RS2 PALMEX collectors installed at six monitoring sites: Tezoyuca (1,194 m asl), Temixco (1,264 m asl), Cuernavaca (1,638 m asl), Huitzilac (2,600 m asl), Tres Marías (2,813 m asl), and Tres Cumbres (3,290 m asl). These sampling stations are part of the National Network of Isotopes in Precipitation, operated by the Department of Hydrology of the Mexican Institute of Water Technology (IMTA). The dataset provides spatially distributed observations of stable water isotopes across an elevation gradient and supports applications in hydrology, hydrogeology, ecohydrology, isotope hydrology, and water-resource management. It also contributes to improving the availability of stable isotope precipitation data for central Mexico and provides a reference dataset for investigating precipitation processes, moisture sources, and groundwater recharge.

Abstract
--------
This dataset presents a georeferenced stable isotope record of rainwater from Morelos,
Mexico, comprising 121 samples collected between September 2016 and March 2022.
The dataset includes measurements of δ18O, δ2H, and d-excess, together with sampling
periods, geographic coordinates, and station elevation. Rainwater samples were collected
using RS2 PALMEX collectors installed at six monitoring sites: Tezoyuca (1,194 m a.s.l.),
Temixco (1,264 m a.s.l.), Cuernavaca (1,638 m a.s.l.), Huitzilac (2,600 m a.s.l.),
Tres Marías (2,813 m a.s.l.), and Tres Cumbres (3,290 m a.s.l.). These sampling stations
are part of the National Network of Isotopes in Precipitation, operated by the Department
of Hydrology of the Mexican Institute of Water Technology (IMTA). The dataset supports
applications in hydrology, hydrogeology, ecohydrology, isotope hydrology, and water-resource
management, and contributes to improving the availability of stable isotope precipitation
data for central Mexico.

Spatial coverage
----------------
North latitude: 19.061267°
South latitude: 18.800383°
West longitude: -99.268800°
East longitude: -99.196733°
Coordinate reference system: WGS 84 / EPSG:4326

Temporal coverage
-----------------
Start: September 2016
End: March 2022

Data and isotope notation
-------------------------
δ18O and δ2H are reported in per mil (‰) relative to VSMOW.
d-excess is reported in per mil (‰) and follows:
d-excess = δ2H − 8 × δ18O.

The original sampling_period field is retained because the source database contains
both individual months and multi-month sampling periods. Exact dates were not inferred
where they were not explicitly provided.
