Abstract

This resource includes experimental data for particle clogging in fractures, including images, videos, and other data. The movie file shows emergence of all the patterns of the clogging experiments in a vertical rough fracture. The patterns include : I, non-clogging (NC); II, stripe-like accumulation (SA); III, complete blockage (CB); IV, entrance sealing (ES). The fracture aperture field is measured by using the light transmission method and provided in the spreadsheet file format. The fracture is made of transparent replicas of granite rock fracture surfaces. The procedure for fabricating a transparent fracture cell is as follows. Step 1: split a rock block to obtain a rough rock fracture with the Brazilian test method. Step 2: produce two silicone rubber molds of the two rough surfaces. Step 3: cast two resin replicas of rough surface respectively from the two silicone rubber molds. Step 4: match and glue the two fracture replicas, and then add an inlet manifold. The last two spreadsheet files include the data for normalized clogging volume Vc and mean aperture of clogged fracture areas, as a function of secondary liquid content ω and flow rate Q (represented by the Stokes number St) at the end of the experiments.
