Abstract
This study evaluates the effects of a single-reservoir stabilization alternative on performance metrics within the Colorado River Simulation System (CRSS), such as outflows from Lake Powell and Lake Mead, water elevations, and storage. The experimental alternative focuses on stabilizing water elevation in Lake Powell while maintaining a minimum protection elevation in Lake Mead. The alternative is simulated across two elevations and uses three different hydrologies to assess impacts on reservoir storage and releases. The analysis aims to determine the efficacy of more aggressive strategies to improve drought resilience and the operational feasibility of single reservoir stabilization as a potential management approach for post-2026 operations for the Colorado River.

-------- Read Me----------- All of the files need to run the model are in the CRSS_Project_Model zipped folder. To run the files, unzip the files and set up CRSS in Riverware. The zipped folder already contains all 3 hydrologic scenarios as well as the default hydrologic scenarios available in CRSS. The 3 hydrologic scenarios are: 2016v2 UB and LB Demands (current baseline hydrology) CMIP5ScenarioProject PaleoScenario Additionally, the output dmi for the results is included as Stabilization Outputs. There are multiple rulesets included in the zipped folder. The ruleset for this project is: CRSS.StabilizationRuleset.rls To run the stabilization rules make sure Rule 5 Mead Protection Rule, Rule 19 Drawdown Powell and Rule 20 protection elevation rule powell are turned on. Also turn off the equalization rules, rules 22-28. To change the target elevation for Lake Powell, open Rules 19 and 20 and edit the elevation. The results from the output dmi will be saved in the results file as ILO3output (old name from a different project). The output dmi must be invoked after each run to output the data. New data will overwrite the same excel sheet so transfer any data you want to save before saving another simulation run. Also included in this repository are the project report and results.
