Abstract
This dataset accompanies the study “Collective transfer of microparticle clouds across the air–water interface”. The experiments investigate the transfer of simultaneously released hydrophilic glass microparticles across a quiescent or weakly turbulent air–water interface, with particular emphasis on collective effects associated with particle size, morphology, and injected mass. Spherical (SPHP) and non-spherical (NSPHP) particles were investigated over four size ranges and several injected masses. The dataset contains the processed experimental data underlying the quantitative results and figures presented in the associated study, including particle size distributions, particle transfer efficiencies, particle-cloud impact characteristics, interfacial spreading velocities derived from PIV measurements, impact and rebound velocities, and quantities used in the energetic analysis of collision-mediated transfer. Measurements of particle-cloud impact footprints obtained from complementary adhesive-substrate experiments are also provided. These data support the characterization of five collective particle-transfer mechanisms and the analysis of size- and morphology-dependent particle transport across the air–water interface.

This repository contains the experimental and processed data supporting the study “Collective transfer of microparticle clouds across the air–water interface.” The experiments and subsequent data processing were conducted by: camille.lozet@gmail.com Comments and questions regarding this dataset are welcome. ============================================================================= The dataset contains: - Manufacturer information for the glass particles used in the experiments, provided in "Manufacturer-Info-Microspheres" and "Manufacturer-Info-Shards". - Particle-size measurements obtained by optical microscopy, provided in "Microscope-PDF". - Measurements of the static impact-footprint dimensions for all particle-release experiments, provided in "Static-Footprints". - The main results of the weighing experiments, including the associated experimental uncertainties, provided in "Weighting-Results". - The "Radial-Expansion-Images" folder contains images from the different experiments performed in the tank, together with videos of the experiments and the corresponding PIV data. - The data-processing algorithms used to analyse the high-speed-camera images are provided in "1MM-Depth-Trace", "Calibration-and-Reframing", and "LiuEvans-Reproduction". Impact-velocity and contact-angle measurements obtained from these experiments are provided in "Impact-Measurements". - The "5000FPS" folder contains calibration images and a selection of high-speed side-view images used to characterize particle impact and transfer across the interface.
