Abstract
This dataset contains 196 locations in semi-arid and arid regions where groundwater recharge fluxes were reported based on ground-based methods, and their equivalent simulated groundwater recharge fluxes were estimated using the Richards equation, global soil properties, and daily climate data. For each location, there is a folder that contains the parameters of the soil hydraulic functions and the original climate (Rain (R) and potential evapotranspiration (Ep)) that was used. Long daily R and Ep time series were synthesized according to the original measured climate. Furthermore, the statistics of the long daily time series were modified, mainly the standard deviation and the mean of the R and Ep. For a comprehensive dataset description, please refer to the paper entitled ‘Changes in mean evapotranspiration dominate groundwater recharge in semi-arid regions’.

This folder contains water flux simulations for 196 locations in semi-arid areas that were conducted for the study entitled: 'Changes in mean evapotranspiration dominate groundwater recharge in semi-arid regions'. In the following, there is an explanation for each file: 1. 'Climate_CRU' - contains the CRU-TS data, precipitation, and potential evapotranspiration extracted according to coordinates. 2. Data_location—This file contains global data on soil particle size distribution, predicted soil parameters from Rosetta, and reported groundwater recharge. 3. ET_DS_MC - generated potential ET time series from the 'Climate_CRU' data 4. Rain_DS_MC - generated precipitation time series from the 'Climate_CRU' data 5. BFlux_Three_layer - calculated water flux using the generated climate time series 6. BFlux_Three_layer_Recharge - calculated yearly recharge. 7. ET_STDMod, Rain_MeanMod, Rain_STDMod, and ET_MeanMod - modified climate time series. 8. ET_STD_X, Rain_Mean_X, ET_Mean_X, and Rain_STD_X - calculated water fluxes under the different scenarios of statistics modifications. 9. YearlyRe - this folder contains the calculated yearly recharge. 10. ExtrClim - this folder contains three subfolders: 1. Cal_flux - calculated water fluxes for the different extreme scenarios; 2. Only_one_run - the modified climate time series for the different extreme scenarios; 3. YearlyFlux - yearly calculated recharge fluxes. 11. Rain_Globe and ET_Globe - contain the codes that produced the climate time series from the measured time series. 12. Extreme—This folder contains the Matlab codes that change extreme rain statistics and extreme potential evapotranspiration statistics. There are four files to establish the rain or ETp time series: a)Extrem_ET - does not include the seasonality and introduce extreme weather along the year, b)Extrem_ET_Monthly - extreme within each calendar month, c)Extrem_Rain - does not include the seasonality and introduce extreme weather along the year and d) Extrem_Rain_Monthly - extreme within each calendar month. 13. All_Points_For_SI - This file contains the list of all locations, including their soil properties, coordinates, and the continent.
