Abstract

This repository contains the raw data, R script for analysis and visualization, and ArcGIS Pro package supporting the manuscript "Sensitivity of L-Band Microwaves to Subsurface Cobbles in Thin Soils (< 0.5 m) and Implications for Agrohydrology" submitted to Geophysical Research Letters in June 2026. The dataset allows an assessment of the penetration depth of HV- and HH-polarized L-Band microwaves into soils under field conditions.

Repository Contents:
• [dissertChapter2_studyArea.ppkx]: ArcGIS Pro Project package containing the finalized maps, layouts, and clipped raster layers.
• [palsar20080117_zf_carc.csv]: Raw CSV files containing the underlying tabular data for the CARC site.
• [palsar20080117_zf_carc.csv]: Raw CSV files containing the underlying tabular data for six farm sites.
• [zfWithYield_carcSunBasinIndianButte.csv]: Raw CSV files containing the underlying agronomic data (i.e., wheat yield and protein) at three farm sites
• [20260622_hypothesisTesting.xlsx]: Raw data and visualization forming the basis of the hypothesis testing framework.
• [hydroshareCode.R]: R script used to automate the data cleaning, analysis, and visualization process.
• [palsarHH_20080117.tif]: Raster data for the HH-polarized backscatter signal at the CARC site
• [palsarHV_20080117.tif]: Raster data for the HV-polarized backscatter signal at the CARC site
• [zfResamp.tif]: Raster data for soil thickness at the CARC site (resampled to L-band SAR)

Software & Hardware Requirements:
Spatial data was processed using ArcGIS Pro (Version 3.2.2). R scripts require Version 4.6.0 with moments, raster, ggplot2, and ggExtra packages. The XLSX file requires Microsoft® Excel® for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2508 Build 16.0.19127.20678).
