Abstract

This dataset supports the hydrodynamic modeling study described in "Water exposure time distributions controlled by freshwater releases in a semi-enclosed estuary," published in Water Resources Research (2025). The model was developed using the Delft3D Flexible Mesh (D3DFM) system to simulate circulation patterns in the Lake Pontchartrain Estuary (LPE). This repository includes all files required to reproduce the model: the unstructured computational grid, boundary and initial condition files, meteorological and hydrological forcings, and scenario-specific discharge time series. Also provided are water level and velocity observations from moored sensors used for model calibration and validation.

Model inputs reflect 2014 conditions, selected as a representative year based on historical analysis of wind and river discharge data. Scenario definitions, calibration performance, and modeling methodology are detailed in the associated publication. The following web services are available for data contained in this resource. Geospatial Feature and Raster data are made available via Open Geospatial Consortium Web Services. The provided links can be copied and pasted into GIS software to access these data. Multidimensional NetCDF data are made available via a THREDDS Data Server using remote data access protocols such as OPeNDAP. Other data services may be made available in the future to support additional data types.
