Abstract

This archive includes data used in Zhang et al.'s GRL paper "Reconstruction of sparse stream flow and concentration time-series through compressed sensing", which has been published and is available at https://doi.org/10.1029/2022GL101177. There are two directories that contain 1) daily-scale streamflow and water quality data in multiple gages during 2015-2021, and 2) 15-min-scale stream flow and water quality data in one gage during 2015-2021. The variables include streamflow, temperature, specific conductance, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, nitrate concentration, and phosphorous concentration. The number of gages for different variables varies in the daily-scale data. All the data was retrieved from the USGS National Water Information System (https://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis)

readme.txt

This archive contains two directories:

1) Daily-scale data:
This directory includes daily-scale raw streamflow and water quality data for in total 45 USGS gages, most of which are located in the Midwest. The number of gages varies between different variables.

2) 15-min Data:
This directory includes 15-min raw streamflow and water quality data for one USGS gage, most of which are located in the Midwest.

There are 5 variables in the data file:
A) data (7x1 cell array): Raw data. Each cell includes data matrix for one variable; different columns represent different gages
B) date (7x1 cell array): Datetime. Each cell includes data matrix for one variable; different columns represent different gages
C) gages (7x1 cell array): USGS gage ID
D) nstep (7x1 cell array): Number of time steps for each time-series
E) vars (7x1 cell array): Name of the variables

Units:
A) Streamflow (Q): mm/d
B) Temperature (Temp): Celcius degree
C) Specific Conductance (SC): µS/cm at 25 °C
D) Turbidity (Turb): FNU
E) Dissolved Oxygen (DO): mg/L
F) Nitrate+Nitrite as Nitrogen (NOx-N): mg/L
G) Total Phosphorus (TP): mg/L
