Abstract

Here, we present STORM 2.0, a database compiling the isotopic composition (δ¹⁸O, δ²H, and d-excess) of 52 TCs across the North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, Central America, Gulf of Mexico, and eastern Pacific. The database includes observations from recent campaigns (2013-2025; N = 948) and archived records (1984-1995 and 2012; N = 234), spanning the full range of Saffir-Simpson’s storm intensities (H4: 39.1%; TS: 19.9%; H3: 17.1%; H1: 12.8%; H5: 6.6%; H2: 2.8%), low-pressure systems : 1.1%; and TD: 0.7%). Mean precipitation δ¹⁸O values became progressively lower from maritime (-6.12 ± 3.22‰) to coastal (-7.51 ± 3.82‰) and inland (-9.76 ± 4.87‰) locations, while mean d-excess generally increased from maritime (9.32 ± 3.67‰) to coastal (11.96 ± 4.59‰) and inland (11.32 ± 4.38‰) sites. Although isotopic differences among storm categories were observed, considerable overlap indicates that geographic setting and distance from the storm center influence precipitation isotopes as much as storm intensity. This database provides an invaluable resource for investigating catchment and aquifer responses to extreme rainfall, validating isotope-enabled model simulations, and identifying TC signals in paleoclimate archives.
