Abstract
This resource contains 1) measurements from a spike and recovery and subsequent flushing experiment that were performed on a system at the corner of Pine and 8th streets in Vancouver, BC, Canada (see metadata) to investigate the fate and transport of 6PPD-Quinone through stormwater bioretention systems and 2) the version of the "BioretentionBlues" model that was used to estimate fate of 6PPD-quinone. The current version of the model is available from https://github.com/tfmrodge/SubsurfaceSinks

No. If yes, list source(s): Recommended citation for this dataset: DATA & FILE OVERVIEW File List: Root: 1. "Pine8_SpikeTest_DigitalLogBook.xlsx": This workbook contains the digital lab logbook for the experiment, the measured concentrations, and the calculations that were used to prepare the experimental results for use in the model. 2. "Model_inputs.xlsx": This workbook contains all of the model inputs used to run the model. 3. "3. Pine and 8th South - Bioretention SWMM Template.zip": This contains the EPA-SWMM model for the Pine and 8th st catchment, and the rain gauges that were used to generate the synthetic events. You can download EPA-SWMM here: https://www.epa.gov/water-research/storm-water-management-model-swmm 4. "SubsurfaceSinks-Pine8th.tar.gz" This repository contains the SubsurfaceSinks code and associated BioretentionBlues subclass that was used to estimate the transport and fate of chemicals in this publication. For more information see the repository at https://github.com/tfmrodge/SubsurfaceSinks, the uploaded version is V2.0: Pine8th. Note that V1.0 does not exist, but is the version that was used in Rodgers et al. (2022) Relationship between files, if important: These files contain the measurements and the values that were used to parameterize and run the BioretentionBlues subclass for estimating the fate and transport of 6PPD-Quinone through stormwater bioretention systems. Additional related data collected that was not included in the current data package: The multimedia Urban Model is available at the lead author's GitHub: https://github.com/tfmrodge/SubsurfaceSinks, or in File 4. The version uploaded here is V2.0: Pine8th. The model was originally published as: (1) Rodgers, T. F. M.; Wu, L.; Gu, X.; Spraakman, S.; Passeport, E.; Diamond, M. L. Stormwater Bioretention Cells Are Not an Effective Treatment for Persistent and Mobile Organic Compounds (PMOCs). Environ. Sci. Technol. 2022, acs.est.1c07555. https://doi.org/10.1021/acs.est.1c07555. Are there multiple versions of the dataset? No If yes, name of file(s) that was updated: Why was the file updated? NA METHODOLOGICAL INFORMATION Description of methods used for collection/generation of data: The data presented here was collected from a "spike and recovery" experiment on a bioretention cell in Vancouver, Canada. Full methodological information can be found in the associated publication. DATA-SPECIFIC INFORMATION FOR: [1. Pine8_SpikeTest_DigitalLogBook.xlsx] This workbook contains 11 sheets and a "cover" sheet, which describes the data contained in each sheet. For full methodological details, see the associated manuscript. Briefly, flow rates were measured with a 3L graduated cylinder and a stopwatch, the "water quality' parameters (temperature °C, conductivity us, and pH) were measured with a water quality probe. Samples were taken using a peristaltic pump and then stored on ice until extraction (as described below). Analysis (see associated manuscript for full details): We quantified 6PPD-quinone by extracting the water samples using off-line solid-phase extraction (SPE), and then transferred 1 mL of well-mixed extract to HPLC vials for analysis using an Agilent 1200 series high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) system and a 6410 triple quadrupole mass spectrometer (Agilent Technologies, CA, USA). We measured the concentrations of the bromide and rhodamine-WT tracers using ion chromatography (Dionex Aquion, Thermo Scientific, Ontario, Canada) and UV/Vis spectroscopy (Unicam UV 300, Thermo Spectronic, USA), respectively. DATA-SPECIFIC INFORMATION FOR: [2. Model Inputs.xlsx] This workbook contains 12 sheets and a "cover" sheet, which describes each sheet and the data contained therein. DATA-SPECIFIC INFORMATION FOR: [3. Pine and 8th South - Bioretention SWMM Template.zip] This compressed folder contains an EPA-SWMM model of the Pine and 8th st. catchnment and bioretention cell (uncalibrated). It can be used to generate the input flows to the bioretention cell that were used in this study. For details on how to run an EPA-SWMM model, refer to: https://www.epa.gov/water-research/storm-water-management-model-swmm DATA-SPECIFIC INFORMATION FOR: [4. "SubsurfaceSinks-Pine8th.tar.gz"] This repository contains the SubsurfaceSinks and BioretentionBlues code used to estimate the transport and fate of chemicals in this publication. For more information see the reposiitory at https://github.com/tfmrodge/FugModel, the uploaded version is V2.0: Pine8th.
