Abstract

This resource provides FlexPDE numerical model files used to assess how ice-sheet loading influences subsurface hydraulic head and salinity distributions in coastal aquifers. The model setup builds on the foundational framework described by Bense & Person (2008) and solves coupled, two-dimensional, variable-density groundwater flow and solute transport equations with mechanical loading. The archive includes spin-up runs, full simulation input files, and metadata documenting the simulation workflow.

The archive contains three FlexPDE input files (.pde) required to run a variable-density groundwater flow and solute transport model with mechanical loading/unloading. Running the model requires a FlexPDE license version 7 or newer. Users may adjust aquifer properties (e.g., intrinsic permeability) and the model domain as desired.

Run the files in the following order:

1) Spin_up_head_sim1.pde
Run to completion to generate head_sim_1.dat.

2) Spin_up_head_con_sim1.pde
Run to completion (using head_sim_1.dat as input) to generate the restart files required for the full simulation:
- full_sup_head_sim_1_1001.dat
- full_sup_temp_sim_1_1001.dat
- full_sup_cont_sim_1_1001.dat

3) Load_hold_unload_sim1.pde
Run using the three restart files listed above.
