Abstract
This resource contains data which underpins the National Water Model (NWM) version 2.1 analyses presented in the article "NOAA's National Water Model: Advancing Operational Hydrology Through Continental-Scale Modeling" appearing in the Journal of the American Water Resources Association. Please see the readme.txt file below for details on spatial and temporal coverage.

National Water Model V2.1 Validation Period Streamflow Output Data This data underpins the National Water Model (NWM) version 2.1 analyses presented in the article "NOAA's National Water Model: Advancing Operational Hydrology Through Continental-Scale Modeling" appearing in the Journal of the American Water Resources Association. Data files are available for three NWM domains: CONUS, Puerto Rico and Hawaii. Note: All data files have been compressed using "7z" to minimize storage space and are stored in the 7z compressed file format. CONUS: File name: streamflow_model_obs_NWMv2.1_Full_Routing_CONUS_Oct2013_Oct2016.Rdata streamflow_model_obs_NWMv2.1_Long_Range_CONUS_Oct2013_Oct2016.Rdata 1) Geographic extent Place/Area Name : Contiguous United States North Latitude: 49.00075 East Longitude: -67.31806 South Latitude: 25.46798 West Longitude: -124.6258 2) Temporal extent Start Date: 2013-10-01 00:00:00 End Date: 2016-10-01 00:00:00 3) A general description of the contents and format of the file: The dataset is saved as an R object, containing an object called "pairedData", a data.frame format in R. The object pairedData contains the hourly NWM simulated streamflow values for all the USGS gauges that were used in the model analysis, as well as the hourly USGS observation. Dataset contains the following columns: * feature_id : The ComID of the link/reach where the USGS gage is located. * POSIXct : The time stamp in format %Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S * q_cms_mod: Simulated streamflow from model in cubic meter per second * tag: A tag used to identify the model configuration * UTC_date: The date in the format %Y-%m-%d * site_no: USGS gage identifier * q_cms_obs: Instantaneous streamflow measurements at the top of the hour There is one row per gage, per time step. Puerto Rico: File name: streamflow_model_obs_NWMv2.1_PRVI_Dec2009_Aug2017.Rdata 1) Geographic extent Place/Area Name : Puerto Rico North Latitude: 18.45534 East Longitude: -65.69343 South Latitude: 17.98052 West Longitude: -67.15083 2) Temporal extent Start Date: 2009-12-01 00:00:00 UTC End Date: 2017-08-31 23:00:00 UTC 3) A general description of the contents and format of the file The dataset is saved as an R object, containing an object called "pairedData", a data.frame format in R.
