Abstract
These files contain soil moisture measurements collected using a Campbell HSII TDR probe throughout Yosemite's Illilouette Creek Basin. Measurements represent the average volumetric water content over the top 12cm of soil. Collections were designed to capture variability over time as well as variability across different topographies and fire histories. A subset of these measurements are discussed in more detail in the following article: Boisramé, Gabrielle, Sally Thompson, and Scott Stephens. Prepared by Gabrielle Boisrame. Email: gabrielle.boisrame@dri.edu The MeasSite tab gives descriptions of each measurement site. The AllTDR tab gives every single soil moisture measurement, along with all connected data. Column Names for AllTDR tab: Site: Identifier for study site where the measurement was taken. Each site is approximately a square 100 ft by 100 ft. Veg: Vegetation class. Conifers are divided among abma (red fir), abco (white fir), pico (Lodgepole pine), mix fir, mix con (for mixes of different kinds of conifers) or things like mix con rec meaning mixed conifer recruitment (saplings only, few to no live adult trees). Willows are divided among riparian and hillside, since willows growing in riparian areas were in very high soil moisture, but willows growing on a hillslope did not generally indicate soil moisture that was any higher than that for other shrubs. SubSite: To divide sites by vegetation, I added this subsite column. For example, site 1 has both shrubs and meadow vegetation, so measurements in the shrubs are labeled 1.1 while those in the meadow are labeled 1.2. LonPoint and LatPoint: Longitude and latitude at the point measured (WGS84) VWC: Volumetric Water Content (as a %) measured using HSII TDR probe, which takes the average over the top 12cm of soil. In many saturated soils the device could not calculate the percent, so I entered 55.555 for these points because the maximum VWC measured was just under 55%. Vegetation Notes: Mix con means there's a roughly even mix of various pines and firs Mix firs means roughly even mix of white and red fir If tree name isn't followed by "rec." then the area is dominated by adult trees For some very wet sites, the TDR could not calculate a soil moisture value. These points were recorded as 55.55% VWC since this is just above the maximum recorded value.
