Abstract

Code, inputs and crop data-source summaries for the Central Valley Groundwater Nitrogen Loading Model (CV-GNLM) used in Bhaduri et al. (Nature Sustainability, 2026). The resource reproduces 2020 nitrogen (N) surplus (potential root-zone N loading) at 50 m resolution across California's Central Valley under bounded combinations of crop fertilizer and harvest N from UC Davis Cost and Return Studies, CDFA, USDA surveys and census, and Irrigation and Nitrogen Management Plan (INMP) reports, with full, half and no dairy manure. township.m runs the 2020 model and maps township hotspot ranks and Groundwater Protection targets; the README lists all files and steps.
