ABSTRACT:

This dataset was produced by the Integrated Spatial Modeling and Remote Sensing Technologies Laboratory (I-SMART), an interdisciplinary research group within the Davidson Laboratory at Stevens Institute of Technology (Hoboken, New Jersey, USA).

The dataset contains numerical simulation outputs from the Model for Prediction Across Scales – Atmosphere (MPAS-A) corresponding to the passage of the remnants of Hurricane Ida over the New York Metropolitan Area (NYMA). The event occurred between September 1 and 2, 2021, producing extreme rainfall and widespread flooding across the region.

Simulations were performed using a quasi-uniform MPAS-A mesh with a 3-km horizontal resolution. The base mesh was obtained from the official MPAS-A Meshes and Mesh Utilities repository and subsequently cropped to focus on the region of interest encompassing the New York Metropolitan Area.

This dataset serves as a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners seeking to understand and apply next-generation atmospheric modeling approaches based on unstructured meshes. In particular, it provides a practical example of how MPAS-A outputs could be used in hydrological modeling systems, such as the Framework NextGen.
