ABSTRACT:
This dataset contains biogeochemical measurements collected from the Jornada Experimental Range dryland soils during the 2022 growing season (mid-September). A KMZ file is provided to visualize sampling locations and site characteristics. Soil cores (0-10 cm) were collected from three desert landforms with varying parent materials and two microhabitats (under-plant and interspace). Samples from the cores were reacted with citrate, oxalate, and malate (10 –10,000 µM). The extracts were analyzed for PO43- (inorganic P) concentrations via the malachite green colorimetric method, total P, and cations (Ca, K, Mg, Fe, and Mn) by hydraulic press/x-ray fluorescence (XRF), dissolved cations (Ca, K, Mg, Fe, and Mn), and total dissolved P by inductively coupled plasma–optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES), organic P (the difference between total dissolved P and inorganic P), and in situ concentrations of organic acids by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). These datasets support analyses to determine the threshold concentration range of organic acids that mobilize phosphorus across parent material/landforms/vegetation in Chihuahuan Desert soils.
