ABSTRACT:

To examine differences in watershed-scale residence time using water isotopes (δD, δ18O) , 907 baseflow water samples were collected between 2016 and 2021 at Reedy Creek Restoration Project, located in the 6km2 headwaters of Reedy Creek, an urban forest stream in Charlotte, North Carolina (USA). Samples were collected using a nested watershed approach from eleven sites. The eleven sites were sampled approximately monthly and a subset of five sites were sampled approximately weekly. In addition, ten shallow wells were sampled approximately quarterly. This resource contains a table of δD and δ18O values and a table of site information for the stream and groundwater sampling sites.

ABSTRACT:

Groundwater levels, temperatures, and chemistry were monitored in 14 wells at Redlair Observatory, a Critical Zone research site on the Piedmont region of North Carolina, from March 5, 2019 to August 5, 2020. Groundwater levels and temperatures from 5 wells were recorded continuously at 10-minute resolution and barometrically compensated using an onsite barometric logger. Groundwater levels were manually recorded monthly from 9 additional wells. 14 groundwater samples were collected quarterly from 14 wells and 4 stream baseflow samples were collected from seasonally flowing first-order watersheds. Groundwater chemical parameters in this data resource include pH, temperature, ion concentrations (calcium, sodium, magnesium, potassium, chloride, nitrate, phosphate, sulfate), silica concentrations, and alkalinity concentrations. In addition, hydrogen and oxygen isotope ratios (δD, δ18O) are reported for 69 groundwater samples and carbon isotope ratios of dissolved inorganic carbon (δ13C-DIC) are reported for 14 samples.
