ABSTRACT:
This resource provides a narrated video visualizing groundwater-table dynamics measured during the 2016 PERiodic Tracer Hierarchy (PERTH) experiment at the Landscape Evolution Observatory (LEO), Biosphere 2. The video presents animated three-dimensional volume renderings of the saturated zone across two replicated hillslopes, illustrating its expansion, contraction, wedge-shaped geometry, and cross-slope contrasts over the experimental period. An interactive browser-based WebGL viewer of the same scene is available at https://mkim-lab.github.io/b2-webgl, and a fully immersive VR application is provided in a related resource.
ABSTRACT:
This resource provides the virtual reality (VR) application (APK) for immersive visualization of groundwater-table dynamics measured during the 2016 PERiodic Tracer Hierarchy (PERTH) experiment at the Landscape Evolution Observatory (LEO), Biosphere 2. The application renders the temporal evolution of the saturated zone across two replicated hillslopes using pressure-transducer measurements interpolated into animated three-dimensional volume representations. Users wearing a head-mounted display can explore the hillslope groundwater dynamics at true spatial scale with head-tracked navigation and interactive temporal control. Associated materials include a narrated video (see related resource) and a browser-based WebGL viewer at https://mkim-lab.github.io/b2-webgl.
ABSTRACT:
This data set was collected in miniLEO located in Landscape Evolution Observatory (LEO), Biosphere 2, University of Arizona, USA. This data was collected during 08/252014 - 09/22/2014 and was utilized to estimate the transit time distribution (TTD) and the StorAge Selection (SAS) function.
ABSTRACT:
This dataset was collected in the LEO (Landscape Evolution Observatory) east and west hillslopes during 12/1/2016 - 12/29/2016 and utilized to estimate and analyze the transit time distribution and the SAS function.
ABSTRACT:
This video describes the LEO hillslopes at Biosphere 2 (https://biosphere2.org), The University of Arizona, and an experiment conducted in 2016.
00:10 About LEO
05:34 Experimental design and time series
06:48 Flow dynamics
09:43 Transport dynamics and StorAge Selection (SAS) function (13:39 - Introduction to the SAS function)
This video is published in Hydrological Processes:
Kim, M., Volkmann, T. H. M., Bugaj, A., Wang, Y., Meira Neto, A. A., Matos, K., Harman, C. J., & Troch, P. A. (2021). Uncovering the hillslope scale flow and transport dynamics in an experimental hydrologic system. Hydrological Processes, 35(8), e14337. https://doi.org/10.1002/hyp.14337
