ABSTRACT:
This resource contains individual (discrete) field discharge measurements collected across all five Quantifying Ecosystem exports across Space and Time (QuEST) project watersheds: Brush Creek, Arkansas (BR); Dog Valley, Nevada (DV); Santa Fe River, New Mexico (NM); South Sandy, Alabama (SS); and Lamprey River, New Hampshire (LMP). Measurements were made by one of two methods — salt slug (dilution gauging) or velocity-area (flow meter) — with the method used depending on site and watershed (South Sandy and the site DVMS1 in Dog Valley use velocity-area exclusively; Santa Fe River uses salt slug exclusively; Brush Creek and Lamprey River use a mix of both, depending on the visit; the rest of Dog Valley uses salt slug).
This resource includes every site that was ever visited for a discharge measurement. Of the 73 sites represented here, 27 currently have a companion continuous-discharge product published in the "Continuous Streamflow Records" resource; measurements at the remaining sites were made at locations without a PT installation, or at PT sites whose rating curve has not yet been finalized for publication. Each row is flagged with a `used_in_rating_curve` column accordingly, so this resource serves both as a standalone record of field discharge measurements and as the supporting data behind the rating curves in the companion continuous-discharge resource.
Measurements span May 2024 through October 2026, totaling 1,322 individual discharge measurements across 73 sites (as of August 31st 2026).
ABSTRACT:
This resource contains continuous discharge (streamflow) time series for 21 monitoring sites across four watersheds in the Quantifying Ecosystem exports across Space and Time (QuEST) project: Brush Creek, Arkansas (1 site); Dog Valley, Nevada (3 sites); Santa Fe River, New Mexico (11 sites); and South Sandy Creek, Alabama (6 sites). Discharge was derived from pressure-transducer water-level records, corrected for barometric pressure and sensor-repositioning offsets, and converted to discharge (Q, m³/s) using site-specific stage-discharge rating curves built from field discharge measurements (see the "Individual Discharge Measurements" resource).
Each site is published as a full-record CSV (`<SiteID>_full.csv`) and as one CSV per USGS water year (`<SiteID>_WY####.csv`, Oct 1–Sep 30, labeled by the ending calendar year). Record lengths vary by site; across this resource, coverage spans May 2024 through October 2026.
See the included README.txt for full column definitions, the water-year convention, and site-specific notes on rating curve type (standard, segmented, pool-formed, or sensor-repositioning-adjusted).
ABSTRACT:
This dataset contains dissolved solute concentrations from synoptic stream water chemistry sampling conducted across five watersheds as part of the Quantifying Ecosystem exports across Space and Time (QuEST) project. The study spans a range of climates, geologies, and land uses across the contiguous United States: the Santa Fe River watershed (New Mexico), Brush Creek watershed (Arkansas), Dog Valley watershed (Nevada), Lamprey River watershed (New Hampshire), and South Sandy Creek watershed (Alabama).
Grab samples were collected at up to 115 sites across the five watersheds during synoptic campaigns in 2023–2026. Samples were analyzed at the University of New Hampshire Water Quality Analysis Laboratory for dissolved organic carbon (NPOC), total dissolved nitrogen (TDN), ammonium (NH4), orthophosphate (PO4), chloride (Cl), nitrate (NO3), sulfate (SO4), sodium (Na), potassium (K), magnesium (Mg), and calcium (Ca). Where multiple replicates were collected at the same site on the same date, values were averaged prior to publication. Values below the method detection limit (MDL) were replaced with one-half the MDL; a flag column is included for each analyte indicating which values were substituted. Note that nitrate in Arkansas samples was analyzed using the colorimetric NO3+NO2 method (MDL = 0.010 mg N/L), while all other watersheds used ion chromatography (MDL = 0.005 mg N/L).
